College Night
Last week New England Surf held our first ever “College Night” for both our Girls and Boys programs, respectively. This was a tremendous opportunity for our college-bound athletes to get some important insight from experienced college staff from across the New England region. Our Boys College night took place on Tuesday, with the Girls night taking place on Thursday, January 28.
The College Panel on the boys side consisted of Assistant and Head Coaches at the Division 1, 2 3 levels giving our players a wide variety of information and advice that will help them reach their academic and athletic goals. Adrian Dubois (University of Vermont), Ewan Seabrook (Colby College), Jim Reddish (Stonehill College), and our Boy’s DOC, Jake Beverlin (UMass Boston) each delivered a presentation on a specific topic pertaining to their division of play, as well as the overall expectations that are required of a student-athlete. The topics for the boys night can be found below:
1) Jake Beverlin: Finding your fit
2) Adrian Dubois – Consider Something Different & recruiting at a Division 1 school during COVID and beyond
3) Ewan Seabrook – Good grades are critical and recruiting at an elite academic school during COVID and beyond
4) Jim Reddish – Contact coaches regularly & recruiting at a Division 2 school and beyond
5) Jim, Adrian & Ewan – It’s never too late
Our Girl’s College Panel consisted of coaches and players with experience in each division across the NCAA, providing our girls with much needed information and advice from coaches, as well as from players that have successfully navigated the college process. Nellie Pineault (Babson College), Mary Shimko (Brandeis University), Rachael Schroeder (Trinity College), and Rachel Kingston (former BU player) joined us with each topic being covered by the entire panel as a group. The topics for girls night can be found below:
1) Peter Bradley – Introduction
2) Choosing a school that’s right for you and key things to consider
3) The importance of maintaining good grades when applying to an elite academic school
4) Managing the recruitment process from a student/athlete perspective. Tips for success
5) Managing your time/Life of a student athlete vs student
6) The Soccer Program and what to expect
We sincerely thank all the coaches from both panels for their tremendous work and helpful information for all of our high school players! We hope to have you again soon!
